Junior Buyer

Location: Coventry
Hours: 36.25
Salary: £24,600 to £27,200
Planned start date: ASAP

Orbit is a fantastic business and one that’s really going places.

Orbit was formed in 1967 with the aim of providing good-quality housing for people who would otherwise not be able to afford to buy their own home.

Over 50 years later, we’re one of the leading housing providers in the UK.  Our services have diversified, our housing portfolio has expanded, and our reputation as an innovator within our sector has grown.  But one thing that has never changed.  Our belief in people and what they can achieve.

Your role at Orbit.

We are recruiting a Junior Buyer  to support our commercial team.  It is envisaged that the Junior Buyer will also be able to develop their construction buying experience throughout the duration of the role.  We have a good number of developments in progress, numerous sites due to commence and a strong landbank for direct build and other contracted schemes.

The Junior Buyer will initially provide support to the team and ensure efficient and accurate management of the P2P (purchase to pay) system used within Orbit Homes.  You will actively manage and resolve supplier queries related to invoices and to monitor purchase orders that are yet to be invoiced to ensure our housebuilding activities have accurate cashflow forecasts.  You will ensure that the payment of invoices is made within the agreed payment terms, and work to resolve issues where invoices are received without a purchase order number.  You will become an expert user of our purchase to pay system (Microsoft D365) and work alongside the centralised procurement team, taking a proactive role in developing processes and systems.

Opportunity to develop your skills will become available by supporting the commercial team with the buying of materials for all regional developments including building materials, hired plant and equipment, PPE, sundries, consumables and temporary labour to enable the site teams to build to the correct specification and quality.

You will have opportunity to source and contact suppliers and manufactures, review and negotiate terms, raise orders and produce material delivery plans to ensure timely distribution to meet the demands of the build programme.  Be tasked with the preparation of materials schedules, scheme tenders and the analysis of scheme tender submissions including the cost benefit of the proposals and associated opportunities.

What will help you make a difference.

The Junior Buyer possess knowledge and experience of purchasing processes.

You will have good commercial awareness, analytical skills and have sound judgement when making procurement decisions.

Experience with P2P systems is desirable.

Rewarding your contribution.

For those who want or need more of a work life balance our view is that this role is suitable for WorkSmart. This means we would consider a more flexible working arrangement, where your hours and work location are managed according to business, customer and personal needs. Agile working arrangements will be discussed during the interview process.

Some of our core benefits include:

  • 27 days annual leave plus bank holidays and the “Orbit day”
  • Private medical insurance
  • Excellent contributory pension scheme
  • Life assurance
  • A great pick and mix of flexible benefits including the option to buy and sell holiday and much more

More about Orbit Group

Orbit was established in 1967 by two people on a park bench, contemplating how to tackle homelessness. Five decades on, we are one of the largest builders of affordable homes, placing customers and communities at the heart of what we do. Today, over 100,000 people live in an Orbit home and our aim is to ensure the homes we provide and the places we create are good quality, affordable and safe. We also play an active part in the neighbourhoods where we work, supporting local economies and social activity within communities.
