Who are we and what are we doing in London?

HS2 is a state-of-the-art, high-speed rail line, critical for the UK’s low carbon transport future. It will provide much-needed rail capacity across the country and is integral to rail projects in the North and Midlands – helping rebalance the UK economy.

SCS joint venture are working in partnership with High Speed 2 (HS2), to construct a part of the route which will be 21-miles of tunnel, between Euston and West Ruislip, to build a new, faster, more efficient railway track and service for the local community.

In addition to the tunnelling work, our project will also consist of bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks plus much more.

Routes into the industry

Work Placements

Work placements are a great way to get your foot in the door with any company. It enables you to see what it would be like to work on our project, making sure the role is right for you. Our work placements run for a minimum of 20 days and depending on your interests, qualifications, and previous experience, we will match you to a position or area within the project that we feel will give you the most exposure, to gain the experience you need to find or gain sustainable work. You will receive a mentor, buddy and support from the Skills Employment and Education team during your time with us.

SCS Return to Work Programme

The Return-to-Work programme enables adults with 5 years professional experience who have had a career break of 2+ years (i.e., childcare, caring responsibilities, sabbatical, or further studies), to ‘try before you buy’ by doing a 12-week placement with us. We offer this programme because we recognise the challenges people face with a gap on their CV with 60% of Returners struggling to re-enter the workplace.

What support do you get?

  • 12-week paid placement, to decide if you like the project and are ready to Return to Work.
  • Tailored training programme to Return, with 121 coaching from our partners.
  • A buddy from SCS to support you. Where possible this will be themselves a Returner.
  • An opportunity to network with other Returners on the project for additional support.

Apprenticeships

An apprenticeship is a combination of classroom and on the job training. It enables you to gain qualifications, as well as experience whilst getting paid for your time.

We offer different levels of apprenticeships depending on the role, team and whether the position is with SCS JV or our supply chain. Some of the types of apprenticeship roles we currently have are Business Admin, Quantity Surveying, Material Technician an Engineering.

Keep an eye out for apprenticeship opportunities on SCS JV. We alone are going to need a minimum of 2000 apprentices from now until 2026.

Unemployed Graduate positions

Have you completed your degree but have really struggled to find a role within your area of expertise? We ring fence roles for those in this position. Those that are dealing with the frustrations of not being able to get onto a graduate scheme or are having to settle for a role that’s not related to what they studied.

Job opportunities for unemployed

Our main objectives are to create sustainable job opportunities for local people who are currently unemployed but are interested in permanent employment within construction.
