Pathways into Construction

We’re delighted to announce that EDAC signatory partner Engie working in partnership with EDAC member Phoenix Training and Delivery partner Smart Works Birmingham, are offering a free 2 week sector based employability course to support women affected by abuse to access jobs within construction. This fully funded programme includes guaranteed interviews, Qualifications, ongoing support and a free tablet.

Ahead of the Commonwealth Games to be hosted in the city of Birmingham next year, this is an opportunity to build skills, explore the vast range of local jobs, break the taboo of ‘site only’ roles and develop support networks. This programme is open to female residents in the Birmingham area who meet the criteria, have been affected by abuse or crime, lack work experience, are actively seeking  employment, have gaps in their CV, are isolated, would like to develop their skills, qualifications and confidence, are at risk of harmful practices and where the course could reduce further risk. We particularly encourage applications from BAME women, lone parents and the long term unemployed but it is open to all women. .

The course will take place at: Phoenix Wharf, Bolton Street, Bordesley, Birmingham B9 4HH (Behind BP Garage) and will be split into 4 modules to complete the Health and Safety Level 1 in Construction followed by an assessment for the CSCS card and options for up to 5 e-learning Level 2 (RQF) qualifications: Principles of Fire Safety, Food Safety for Catering,  Safe Moving and Handling , Safeguarding and Protecting Children and Young People, Prevention and Control of Infection for the Workplace and Level 3 Pediatric First Aid, Emergency First Aid at Work.
